Dot NAME Domain Name Registrations

Introduced in 2001, the .NAME universal top-level domain name extension is the sole TLD planned for personal web pages only. These domains can include personal or fictitious names, aliases and/or other titles people are known by. At the beginning, only third-level registrations were possible, so if you wanted to order john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were liberalized and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already taken 3rd-level names remained functional.
